OPFC Tryouts are open for both our boys and girls U12-U19 Academy and U15-U19 Competitive soccer programs.
At Oregon Premier FC, our tryout process is designed to identify players who fit our possession-based style of play, prioritizing technical proficiency, composure on the ball, and tactical intelligence. Every drill and small-sided game is carefully designed to assess a player’s ability to execute desired actions that are important to the OPFC game model.
Some Key Areas We Evaluate:
Players are assessed on their ability to maintain possession, play through pressure, and progress the ball with intelligence.
Players must show the ability to react quickly after losing possession, using smart positioning and technical ability to counter-press effectively.
Defensively, we seek players who are calm under pressure, can break the press with composure, and maintain compact team structure.
Players must recognize transition moments and execute clean, purposeful passes to launch attacks.
Key Evaluation Criteria
Technical Proficiency: How clean is a player’s first touch, passing, and receiving under pressure?
Composure in Possession: Can a player remain calm and make intelligent decisions in tight spaces?
Positional Awareness: Does the player understand movement, spacing, and how to create passing angles?
Decision-Making Speed: Can the player solve problems quickly and efficiently within our system?
Final Assessment & Team Placement
Tryouts conclude with 7v7-11v11 scrimmages, where our coaching staff evaluates how well players implement our possession principles in game situations. Final selections prioritize players who demonstrate technical excellence, comfort on the ball, and the ability to play within a structured, possession-focused system.
